Mario Matt is an Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist.
Born in Flirsch, Tyrol, Matt is a slalom specialist and made his World Cup debut in December 1999. Through January 2014, he has 15 World Cup victories: 14 in slalom and one super combined. Matt is a two-time world champion in slalom, with titles in in 2001 and 2007. With a remarkably long career as a top slalom racer, he is the oldest to win an Olympic gold medal in alpine skiing and the oldest to win a World Cup slalom race. Matt has the third longest time interval between first and last World Cup victories, after Ingemar Stenmark and Didier Cuche.
Matt won his only Olympic medal at age 34, a gold in slalom at Sochi in 2014, held at Rosa Khutor. Less than seven weeks shy of his 35th birthday, he became the oldest Olympic gold medalist in alpine skiing, passing Kjetil Andr� Aamodt by over four months.
